The close-up of the Lagoon and Trifid was with a 35 mm camera at the prime focus of a William Optics Megrez 80 mm f/6 refractor. It was on a German equatorial mount with a 90 mm ETX piggybacked as a guide scope. Note that the picture posted here is just the central area of the whole picture, which has a much larger field (about 10 power). The exposure was for twenty minutes manually guided through the ETX at about 100 power with a Meade 12 MA illuminated reticle eyepiece.
The film for all exposures was Fuji 800 print film from Target.
I had the photo lab just develop and scan the negatives to a CD at 300 dpi. Cost less than $10. Both Sagittarius photos have a Gaussian histogram applied in MaxIm DL to bring out the Milky Way. The Kemble's Cascade was a simple histogram linear stretch. All of them were then downsized and saved as j-pegs for the web. |
